Next time you sit down in your stylist's chair and crack open one of those big hairstyle books, the look you choose might come from Flossmoor.
One of these books, "Inspiration: Volume 67 - Featuring Color" now includes a design created by hairstylist and educator Doyle Sims, who owns Doyle Designed in Flossmoor.
Sims said he first chose his model, Megan Jeronimus, of Manteno, who works as a waitress at Fresh Starts Restaurant in Flossmoor. Considering her age and lifestyle, he then decided how to overhaul her hair.
"When I look at people, I see them redone," Sims said. "I envisioned her change, which was big. She had all-one-length hair before."
He texturized the model's hair, and added multi-dimensional color. Sims said custom coloring and color blending is especially important to him.
After working as a stylist for 10 years in Chicago and the south suburbs, Sims opened his own salon. Three years ago, he released his own line of hair care and styling products, also called Doyle Designed. The licensed cosmetology educator said he enjoys sharing his passion with the community.
"I do seminars for women's groups in the area, mostly in spring and fall," Sims said. "I like helping women find what's right for them."
Sims said he has become a texture specialist over the years, and that's his major focus now. He encourages women to embrace their hair texture, rather than fighting it with constant straightening or curling.
This isn't the first time Sims's work has been published. His work has appeared in Nail Pro magazine and other hairstyle books.
"Inspire" is published quarterly by Creative Age Publications in Los Angeles. The national publication includes current cuts, styles, textures and colors.
Sims said he's proud of this latest entry. "I think it establishes my commitment to change," he said. "I try to stay ahead of the game."
