Is Red A State of Mind?
In nature we have shades of red such as the Grand Canyon which is created by forms of iron oxide. It is also the causes of red color of the planet Mars. We also admire red in the fall when the autumn leaves no longer produce their green chlorophyll. Red also depicts "Hot" in peppers and hot sauce.
Red is the color to get attention like stop signs. Emotions are expressed in red such as "to see red". Sometimes we "paint the town red"! Not to mention the "Red carpet treatment" when we treat someone royally or as a special person. Lot's of people love red wine!
In beauty and fashion Red is seen as a statement color. Only one to two percent of the population has red hair. The color is produced by high levels of reddish pigments called pheomelanin and low levels of dark pigments called eumelanin. We often admire people with beautiful strawberry red hair not knowing that it might not be natural! Some color formulas make it hard to identify a "true" natural redhead! Regardless red heads, and red in general, does stand out! Some shades are softer and more subtle and others are more vibrant.
Thinking of coloring your hair red? It’s all about choosing the right color for your personality. I always look at someone's eye color. Light color or blue eyes I feel look best in cool toned reds. Dark color or brown eyes look best with golden copper shades. If you have a lot of red in your skin it may make it stand out.
When tinting your hair red you want to make sure to not just make your hair one flat color. A subtle bit of depth and dimension makes it look more natural. Now let’s take about the maintenance. Red dye molecules are larger than other dyes. The molecule can’t penetrate the hair shaft as deeply. So after three or four weeks red hair fades. A glossing treatment and deep conditioning treatments do help to prevent the fading.
So how to choose the right red color for lipstick? First ask yourself what type of statement you are looking for. Do you want to stand out with bright red or be understated with copper tones? With lipstick is it a special occasion, or is it a red that you can wear every day? Also consider the texture of lipstick to choose. Do you want it to last all day, or are you good with reapplying it thru the day.
Fair complexions have pink based undertones, so a raspberry color is a good choice. Light complexions typically have a yellow undertone, a lighter orange based red works great. Medium complexions can change during the seasons due to sun exposure so it should change thru the seasons. In summertime a more orange based red, in the winter a deeper blue based red. Olive skin tones look great in brick red and rust colored reds. Caramel and Golden deep complexions look great in a true red. If you’re not a fan of true red try a blue based red like Plum! If you have a deeper complexion you can wear all of the reds whether they are blue based or orange red based.
So....Red is not just a color, it’s a state of mind!
